House painters in West Auckland
IDW's house painters work across West Auckland, from older weatherboard homes to newer builds around Westgate. One crew does the preparation and the painting, and every job is quoted in writing after we have seen it.

We paint West Auckland homes inside and out: walls, ceilings, doors and trim; weatherboard, brick and plaster-clad exteriors; roofs, fences and decks. Before any exterior paint goes on, the same crew washes and water blasts the house, then scrapes, sands, fills and primes.
Inside, that crew also repairs cracked plaster and stops patched GIB before painting, so there is no second trade to book and no one else to blame if the finish is not right. We plaster interiors only, and we do not do exterior plaster or recladding.

What is different about painting in West Auckland
Many West Auckland homes are older timber weatherboard houses. They often carry several layers of old paint, and the preparation takes longer than the painting: scraping back loose paint, sanding, filling gaps and priming bare timber. On a house built before 1980, the old paint should be tested for lead before it is sanded.
Sites near the Waitākere Ranges are often bush-clad, shaded and damp. The ranges get more rain than the rest of Auckland, and walls that see little sun grow mould, moss and lichen. Those surfaces need washing and treating before they are painted, and paint dries more slowly between coats, so exterior work there needs a run of dry days.
Homes on the Te Atatū peninsula and other harbour edges get salt air, which is hard on paint and metal. Regular washing helps an exterior last, and steel roofs and fixings need any rust treated before painting.
Newer homes around Westgate and Massey usually need less preparation. Where the cladding is fibre cement, the board edges need sealing so they do not soak up the paint.
Planning an exterior repaint
Exterior paint needs dry weather and temperatures above 10°C while it goes on and dries, so most exterior work in the west happens from late spring to early autumn. If you want a summer start, get your quote in early. Interior painting can be done any time of year.
Quotes and what to expect
Hadi Haidary, who owns IDW, quotes and oversees every job. The free quote includes a wall health check, valued at $397: we look at the house, tell you what actually needs doing, and put the price in writing. The price we quote is the price you pay, and the work is covered by one 5-year workmanship guarantee. IDW is rated 5.0 on Google by customers across Auckland.
Karen Frost, Google review: “Hadi and his workers were great, responsive and did what they said they would do. The repaired ceilings look like new and the walls in the bathroom kitchen and living room are finished to a high standard. I will book you again for more work.”

Questions people ask
Which West Auckland suburbs do you paint in?
We work across West Auckland, including Henderson, Massey, Waitākere, Te Atatū, Glen Eden, New Lynn, Avondale and Westgate. We are based in Sunnyhills and also cover Auckland City, East Auckland, South Auckland and the North Shore.
How much does it cost to paint a house in West Auckland?
There is no separate West Auckland price. Typical Auckland ranges, including GST, are $8,500 to $15,000 for the exterior of a single-storey house of about 150 m², and $8,000 to $12,500 for the interior of a three-bedroom home. Older weatherboards that need a lot of preparation, and two-storey homes that need scaffolding, cost more. We price every job in writing after seeing it.
Can you paint an older weatherboard house?
Yes. Most of the work is in the preparation: washing, scraping, sanding, filling and priming bare timber. If boards or sills are rotten, we tell you at the quote, so the repair is planned before painting rather than found halfway through.
Do you do exterior plastering or recladding?
No. We plaster interiors only. We paint plaster-clad and brick homes, but cladding repairs and recladding are a job for a cladding specialist.
Do you give free quotes?
Yes. We come and see the job first, and the free quote includes a wall health check valued at $397. The price is in writing, and it is the price you pay.
